NCR Now is an independent, Canadian news platform dedicated to providing timely, accurate, and diverse content that informs, challenges, and engages our readers. This Editorial Policy outlines our values, how we produce content, and the standards we uphold as a media organization.
1. Editorial Independence
NCR Now maintains full editorial independence. We do not allow advertisers, sponsors, political organizations, or donors to influence our editorial content. Our writers and editors are free to pursue stories and express views based on evidence, public interest, and journalistic integrity—not outside pressure.
2. Accuracy and Fairness
We are committed to:
- Verifying facts before publication
- Using credible and reliable sources
- Clearly distinguishing between news, analysis, and opinion
While our content may include strong points of view, we strive to be fair, transparent, and accurate in our representations of people, events, and issues.
3. Corrections and Updates
When factual errors are identified, we promptly correct them and clearly mark the correction on the article. We also update articles as new information becomes available to maintain the accuracy and integrity of our reporting.
If you spot an error, please contact us at editor@ncrnow.ca.
4. Diverse Voices and Inclusion
We actively seek and publish a variety of perspectives, including those from marginalized or underrepresented communities. Our goal is to reflect the diversity of voices across Ottawa, the NCR, and Canada, without promoting hate, misinformation, or discriminatory views.
5. Opinion and Commentary
Opinion pieces, columns, and guest commentaries are labeled as such. They reflect the views of the authors and not necessarily those of NCR Now. We welcome thoughtful, respectful debate and aim to foster a space where different viewpoints can be explored.
6. Sponsored and Advertorial Content
Any paid or sponsored content is clearly marked as such. Sponsored content does not influence our editorial decisions or coverage. We uphold a strict separation between advertising and journalism.
7. Anonymous Sources and Confidentiality
We avoid using anonymous sources unless the story is of significant public interest and the source may face harm or retaliation if identified. When anonymity is granted, we take steps to verify the credibility of the information.
We are committed to protecting the identity of whistleblowers and sources who come forward in good faith.
8. Editorial Decision-Making
Final editorial decisions rest with the editor-in-chief or designated senior editors. We may decline submissions that do not meet our standards for accuracy, originality, tone, or journalistic relevance.
9. User Contributions and Reader Feedback
We encourage reader contributions, tips, and feedback. Submitted content may be edited for clarity, accuracy, and legal compliance. We reserve the right to reject submissions that contain hate speech, libel, misinformation, or material that violates our community guidelines.
10. Ethical Standards
NCR Now adheres to the principles of journalistic ethics, including those outlined by the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) and similar professional bodies. These include truthfulness, accountability, fairness, and minimizing harm.
