uOttawa Lockdown: What do we Know?
The University of Ottawa is on Lockdown due to a violent incident and has ordered all parties on campus to follow lockdown protocol, including:
- Stop all activities and get inside a building immediately
- Find an enclosed area and lock or barricade the door
- Turn off the lights and mute all electronic devices
- Stay away from doors and windows
- Take cover and remain silent until authorities instruct otherwise
The protocol also urges individuals to defend themselves if their lives are in imminent danger. The initial uOttawa Lockdown announcement was issued at 5:18PM on Friday, and has been active for over an hour as of 6:30PM.
Individuals have reported hearing gunshots on or around the uOttawa campus, though NCRNow was not able to verify the validity of these claims.
At 5:56PM, the Ottawa Police Twitter page posted a statement indicating that there is increased police presence on the intersection of Nicholas & Laurier. At 6:22PM, the University posted an update that the security threat is ongoing and to remain under Lockdown until further notice. Worth noting is that the uOttawa website may be slow right now due to increased traffic.
