William Osler Health System has expanded its partnership with medical imaging and cybersecurity company Sectra to implement new artificial intelligence (AI) services aimed at improving clinical workflows and patient care.

The Ontario-based health network, which serves over 1.3 million people across five locations, will now use Sectra’s cloud-hosted AI platform, known as the Sectra Amplifier Service. The platform allows healthcare providers to integrate vetted third-party AI tools directly into their clinical operations, including diagnostic imaging processes.

By using a unified infrastructure that supports multiple AI applications, the service is intended to reduce the burden on hospital IT systems and minimize security risks. Sectra is responsible for managing all aspects of the platform, including integration, deployment, hosting, and ongoing support.

“With Sectra Amplifier Services, we have the opportunity to transform our everyday workflows and consistently deliver high-quality, people-centered care across our facilities,” said David Stankiewicz, Vice President of Digital Transformation and Chief Information & Privacy Officer at William Osler Health System. “We are excited to grow our partnership with Sectra as we embark on this new journey together.”

Osler performs more than 575,000 diagnostic imaging exams each year. It has been using Sectra’s enterprise imaging solutions since 2019, beginning with orthopaedics and expanding in 2023 to include radiology, breast imaging, and a vendor-neutral archive system.

Sectra Canada President Nader Soltani highlighted the increasing interest among healthcare providers in using AI to manage growing workloads. “The transition from curiosity to full integration into clinical workflows can be a significant leap,” he said. “I am happy that Sectra can make this transition easier for William Osler Health System.”

Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution is designed to provide a unified and scalable approach to managing imaging across various medical specialties, aiming to reduce operational costs and support organizational growth.
