Elocity’s HIEV-Nano brings solar, smart grid, and bi-directional charging together in a made-in-Ontario solution backed by OVIN

TORONTO — June 24, 2025 — As electric vehicle (EV) adoption surges across Canada, one Ontario company is leading the charge—literally and figuratively—toward smarter, more efficient, and resilient energy infrastructure.

Elocity Technologies Inc., a Toronto-based leader in EV charging systems, has unveiled its HIEV-Nano project: an advanced bi-directional charging platform that allows EVs to not only draw power from the grid, but also send it back. With funding support from the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) and strategic partners, the project represents a nearly $2 million investment into Ontario’s clean tech economy.

“Elocity is shaping the future of global EV charging with made-in-Ontario technology that addresses real-world EV charging challenges in grid-constrained areas,” said Sanjeev Singh, Elocity’s Founder and CEO. “The HIEV-Nano project reinforces our leadership in smart EV charging and enhances our capacity to serve global markets.”

The project is funded in part by a $663,592 grant from OVIN’s R&D Partnership Fund, matched with over $1.3 million from Elocity and its partners.

More Than Just a Charger

The HIEV-Nano system integrates solar panels, energy storage, and multi-port chargers into a unified platform, supporting vehicle-to-grid (V2G), vehicle-to-home (V2H), and vehicle-to-building (V2B) functionalities. The goal is to reduce costly infrastructure upgrades, cut charging costs, improve grid stability, and generate new revenue streams for property owners and fleet operators.

“Ontario is in the driver’s seat of the global automotive and mobility sector,” said Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN. “This critical investment by the Ontario government… reflects Ontario’s strong commitment to fostering partnerships with global industry leaders… and harnessing the power of homegrown Ontario companies to create jobs and drive prosperity.”

Local Partnerships, Global Ambitions

The HIEV-Nano system will be implemented across multi-residential, commercial, and fleet depot sites with the help of Burlington Electricity Services Inc. (BESI) and Milton Energy & Generation Solutions Inc. (MEGS). These partners will guide grid integration and ensure optimal site deployment.

“Burlington Electricity Services Inc. is thrilled to contribute to this pioneering initiative,” said Angelo Gravina, BESI’s General Manager. “This project addresses [grid] challenges head-on by enabling fast, efficient vehicle charging while also providing reliable backup power – when needed.”

Milton Energy’s Vice President, Jason Edwards, emphasized the importance of accessibility: “By advancing innovative solutions that optimize grid capacity and provide greater access to EV technology, we are supporting our communities in transitioning to more sustainable energy consumption.”

Job Creation and Global Reach

With a footprint already spanning 12 countries, Elocity’s work has put Ontario on the map in the competitive global clean-tech sector. The company’s smart EV infrastructure has already powered major projects, including the world’s largest residential charging deployment and Canada’s largest single-site installation at a multi-residential building.

“This investment highlights the critical role our homegrown companies play in shaping the future of mobility,” said Claudia Krywiak, President & CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation, which oversees OVIN. “We are proud to support ambitious, made-in-Ontario technologies… accelerating commercialization and keeping Ontario at the forefront of the mobility revolution.”

The HIEV-Nano rollout is expected to create new engineering and manufacturing jobs, reduce peak energy demand, and ensure that Ontario’s grid infrastructure keeps pace with rising EV demand—all while strengthening export potential for Canadian cleantech.

“By investing in homegrown innovation and helping local companies compete in global markets,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, “Ontario is protecting the future of our automotive sector… and creating good-paying jobs that will withstand this storm of tariffs and economic uncertainty.”
